Folkestone Cheriton is a ward of Folkestone West county division, represented on Kent County Council by Lib Dem Tim Prater.

The Liberal Democrat Action Team are working for Cheriton throughout the year, and keep in touch regularly through Focus and through E-FOCUS direct via email too.

    A neighbour got in touch recently to mention that their are a number of streetlights that are out on the slip roads / roundabout at the Cheriton J12 M20 junction.

    Essentially, the lights on the M20 and slip roads are the responsibility of Highways England, and those on the roundabout those of Kent Highways. I've contacted both, and have had the below response from Highways England today, saying they should be fixing at least some of the slip road lights on Monday. Progress I hope!

    Kent County Council / Shepway District Council are "consulting" on a series of new Disabled Parking bays across Shepway, including two in Sandgate and one in Cheriton.

    Although the bays have been installed following the request of a specific resident in each case, the bay is not for the applicant's exclusive use. Anyone with a valid badge will be able to park in a permanent disabled bay.

    The Shorncliffe Trust are holding an evening commemoration on 6th August at Shorncliffe Military Cemetery to mark the 100th anniversary of the battle of the Somme 1916.

    The cemetery event opens to the public at 7.30pm, with service from 8.00pm - 9.00pm and departure by 9.30pm.

    This event is supported by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the Royal British Legion as part of the Somme 100 Commemoration 2016.

    Huge congratulations to Kate Love of St Martin's CoE Primary School in Folkestone for winning the Kent Headteacher of the Year 2016 Award and Ashford and Shepway Area Head Teacher of the Year 2016 Awards last night.

    Teachers from across Kent were honoured at the award ceremony in Leeds Castle last night, with Brockhill Park also picking up two Kent wide awards, with Mel Williams winning the Kent Maths Teacher of the Year award and Robyn Fuller the Kent Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) of the Year.

    From 6pm to 9pm on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th February Strange Cargo will be bringing you the third Cheriton Light Festival. There is a line up of extraordinary artists, who have made beautiful artworks for you to see and participate in.

    Festival visitors coming into Folkestone West station by train can view Jyll Bradley's beautiful, luminescent new sculpture Espalier on Strange Cargo's factory building. At the far end of Cheriton High Street, Ross Ashton and Karin Monid's immersive sound and light artwork Spiritus is at All Souls Church.

    Kent County Council Highways department have demanded more detailed information about projected traffic around Horn Street bridge as part of the Shorncliffe Barracks planning application, or have threatened to reccommend opposing approval of the application.

    In a letter to Shepway Development Control on 10 December Kent Highways say they need to see much more detailed traffic projections before they could accept the development, saying the submitted information is "not satisfactory". They've placed a "holding objection" on the development until more information is provided, and if it is not say they would recommend refusal.

    In November, Taylor Wimpey hosted a workshop and public consultation to give local people the chance to view and feedback on their proposals for a new residential development at the MOD Shorncliffe Garrison site.

    There will now be another opportunity for the public to view the proposals in more detail. There are two sessions: TODAY (28 February) 2pm - 7pm and TOMORROW (1 March) 10am - 1pm. The venue: Army Cadet Force Hut, Church Road, Shorncliffe.
