East Kent Bogus Charity Salesman Warning

KCC Trading Standards has received a report of a male knocking on doors in the Whitfield area of Dover last Saturday.

The man claimed to be an ex-serviceman and was selling dusters to raise funds for the Soldiers', Sailors' and Airmen's Families Association (SSAFA) Charity.

The man was scruffily dressed, has a foreign accent and was carrying an A4 placard with SSAFA's details on it .

BE WARNED: WHEN REFUSED A SALE THE MAN BECAME ABUSIVE.

SSAFA have confirmed that the man is not a representative of the charity.

Remember: Anyone selling goods at the door is required to be licensed by the local council. If a person is collecting on behalf of a registered charity they must have an I.D card.

Contact the Charity Commission on 0845 300 0218 to check if the charity is valid. If it is ask the Charity Commission for the charity's telephone number so you can contact them and check the validity of the persons ID.
